A CHRISTMAS CAROL is a classic Charles Dickens story.  It has been made into a movie countless times and this version (according to the filmmakers) is the version closest to capturing the imagination of Charles Dickens novel.   Robert Zemeckis uses the same motion capture technology that is featured in other Zemeckis films, BEOWULF and POLAR EXPRESS.   JimCarey is Ebenezer Scrooge, who gives a bah humbug to Christmas until he is visited by three ghosts on one Christmas Eve night and take him on a tour of his past, present, and possible future.   This version of A CHRISTMAS CAROL is very visually exciting and it is a thrill ride version of the tale compared to other adaptations of this book.   The ending is the only fault of the film which starkly contrasts with the great writing of the rest of the film.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

CAPTURING DICKENS: A NOVEL RETELLING-  an interesting look at how the film was made with motion capture and the way the animation was put together in addition to how the motion capture footage allowed Zemeckis a way to direct the camera anywhere he wanted.   The only downside of the featurette is the unfunny narration by one of the actors (who is trying to be funny).

ON SET WITH SAMMI-   a kid actress shows her day on the set during the motion capture process.

Three deleted scenes in various stages of production with an introduction by Director Robert Zemeckis

Also on the DVD are previews for other films coming to DVD (and available on DVD) and the latest theatrical trailer for TRON LEGACY

FINAL ANALYSIS:   The family and animation fans will like A CHRISTMAS CAROL while fans of the novel are in for a treat too.
