After a failed attempt to propose to his girlfriend, penniless Alan Jones (Jordan Farris) is beaten up by a street gang and then finds himself waking up in a mysterious hidden lab where he becomes part of an experiment to reanimate the legendary Frankenstein monster.  However, Alan causes a rip in the hole of time by accident and he is thrown back to the American Civil War with kid genius Igor where Alan and Igor must survive a battle between the North and South while worrying about an army of Frankenstein monsters pulled from several parallel realities.

 

ARMY OF FRANKENSTEINS would have felt at home with the type of B movies being released to VHS back in the 1980s and 1990s, but the story and cheap effects budget can’t save this movie.  You can tell when several people haven’t been shot in the same frame by how the characters aren’t seamlessly painted in with the best care in the battle sequences during daylight where you can’t tell one guy is playing multiple Frankenstein monsters in many of the night scenes.  The actor playing Abe Lincoln looks nothing like honest Abe while some of the acting is horrible (plus look at how fake the beard and mustaches look on the soldiers).  It is a mildly entertaining and yet forgettable movie deserving only a rental.

 

SPECIAL FEATURES:

The DVD only includes the trailer, but there are more extras on the blu-ray release.

 

FINAL ANALYSIS:  ARMY OF FRANKENSTEINS is only worth a rental due to horrible acting, cheap special effects that don’t blend together half of the time, and a bad script that makes you groan at times.
