BEHIND THE
BURLY Q has lots of interesting stories about burlesque with old photos and film footage to compliment interviews with the
actual burlesque dancers (some who have passed away since their interviews). The documentary film gives a
perspective of the people who who did it while revealing the history and decline of burlesque. It rose during the Depression
and fell when TV (and porn) became popular. I didn't know burlesque was like a variety show with comedians(the part
I wasn't aware of) and burlesque dancers. I liked BEHIND THE BURLY Q, but it come off as too disjointed. I
wish they had a way to link it together better.
SPECIAL FEATURES:
A Burlesque timeline, a photo gallery, and the original theatrical trailer are on the
DVD in addition to three featurettes:
The first featurette is a reunion of the surviving burlesque players while the second
one is focused on the memorabilia and costumes that survived from the era. The final featurette takes a look at the
making of the documentary and why Leslie Zemeckis wanted to make it.
20 minutes of deleted interview footage hits the
nail on the head that Leslie could have made a documentary on any one or two stories featured in the deleted scenes or the
documentary itself. I wonder if she should have focused more on a couple of the burlesque players and using it as a
way to mention the others.
FINAL ANALYSIS: BEHIND THE BURLY Q is an OK documentary giving insight to the real
people part of the burlesque shows and yet I wish Leslie Zemeckis found a way to link the material together better.
