Paul Conroy (Ryan Reynolds) wakes up inside
the coffin, a cell phone and lighter next to him. he remembers being attacked by someone in Iraq. He is a driver for
a supplies convoy from CRT (the company he works for). He starts to panic and call anyone he can in an attempt to get
out of the coffin. The kidnappers want him to hold him for ransom as a faceless hostage crisis person tried to reassure
Paul over the phone that he will be found and to remain calm.
BURIED
is an intense 90 minute thriller taking place in a tight space. You are in the coffin with Paul and you never cut away
to flashbacks or to the people on the other end of the phone. It is all from what Paul is experiencing. BURIED
works due to how director Rodrigo Cortés put it together and Ryan Reynold's performance. Ryan makes you
feel what Paul is going through. You wonder what you would do if you woke up in a coffin and you had no way out.
BURIED is highly recommended for the challenge it successfully lived up to. Closed space films are an interesting challenge.
Films like CUBE are in the same type of film. Also you have to make people stay with the person or
persons that are in that closed space. It is no small feat. Go rent BURIED. I can't wait for GREEN LANTERN
and what Ryan Reynolds will bring to that film.
Sadly, I wish there were extras on the rental DVD. I wish a trailer, a making-of featurette, or even an audio
commentary were included on this. I just don't like the trend of DVDs coming ina combo pack with a Blu-ray
to have no extras.
