Dylan Dog is a private investigator dealing
in divorce cases in new Orleans. He used to help people in the paranormal until the love of his life was taken away
by a vampire. He turned his back on it until he is drawn into a case where a woman's father is killed by a zombie.
Someone is out to disturb the peace between vampires and werewolves (and possibly even the world). It is up
to Dylan to find out the answers reluctantly with the help of his sidekick (who is now a zombie).
DYLAN DOG looks like a movie that will do well on DVD and blu-ray. It's
humor helps keep the film alive and the movie did end up being a bomb at the box office (maybe it is just the wrong time of
the year to release it). The movie isn't very faithful to the Italian comic book series (I hear), but sometimes that
is the nature of adapting material into films. As a supernatural film noir comedy, DYLAN DOG does the job
as an entertaining way to spend a rainy day or an evening renting a film you haven't seen. People will be seeing bigger
fare like THOR or FAST FIVE this time of the year. I do think they could have saved their money and
skipped on the theater release given how most people had turned their backs on the film in theaters.
New Orleans makes and excellent backdrop for this film even though the comic
is set in London. Brandon Routh continues to star in films that don't make a lot of money (SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD
didn't make much wither which I love as a film). You recognize the actors from other films or shows
(like Dylan's sidekick is in the US version of BEING HUMAN). The film does come off like Buffy
the Vampire Slayer at times or a noir comedy version of ANGEL. So just wait for the rental and enjoy something
will probably find it's audience then.
