HIGH CASTLE
(DISC 1)- A translator for the Nuremburg Trials is killed and it leads Foyle
into the world of corrupt oils politics which ties back to the Second World War
TRESPASS (DISC 2)- Foyle investigates a plot
involving
murder, espionage, and a terrorist threat that links to a Palestinian
conference in London
ELISE (DISC 3)- After an assassination attempt
on Hilda
Pierce, Foyle examines her Special Operations Executive activities during the
war and rumors of a traitor that lead to several undercover agents being killed
in France.
This is supposedly the last series for FOYLE’S
WAR, but they
said that before when they finished the World War 2 era episodes. It remains
to be seen if Christopher Foyle
will be back for more Cold War mysteries.
The stories are full of history weaved under the disguise of fiction and
FOYLE’S WAR is a good way to learn and teach about the events of World War 2
and how things were after the war in Great Britain. The series is the
best historical fictional
series since YOUNG INDIANA JONES.
SPECIAL FEATURES:
THE TRUTH BEHIND THE FICTION- featurette for
each episode
(with Anthony Horowitz and Terry Charman) that goes behind the truth of the
times and events that were put into and inspired the episodes. Learn that
TRESPASS was originally going to
feature the return of Charles Dance’s character from WHITE FEATHER and how
ELISE was lightly fictionalized
On DISC 3 are the following extras:
A DAY IN THE LIFE
OF FOYLE’S WAR (26 minutes)- a behind-the-scenes look with cast and crew as
they film in Liverpool (because it has the buildings
that look like post-World War 2 London where London
is too modernized)
INTERVIEW WITH JON MAHONEY (21 minutes)- John
talks about
being a big FOYLE’S WAR fan and happy to accept the part for HIGH CASTLE, his
life and career, the difference between theater and film/ TV acting, his time
on Frasier, and how Eddie the dog wasn’t that friendly.
The photo gallery is a two minute slideshow of
promotional
and behind-the-scenes stills
FINAL ANALYSIS: I hope these latest mysteries
aren’t the
last we see of FOYLE’S WAR because I enjoy how they blend story and history for
this series.
