Britt Reid (Seth Rogen) is the worthless playboy son of an owner of a big newspaper. One day, his dad dies and
Britt's life changes as he cooks up a crazy scheme to fight crime with his sidekick Kato (who designs the weapons and cars,
has mad fighting schemes, and can make a fab cup of coffee). The Green Hornet and Kato act like criminals to take
down the criminals. It brings them to teh attention of chudnofsky (who runs all the crime in Los Angeles and suffering
a mid-life crisis).
THE GREEN HORNET is an enetertaining action comedy. I do think Kato is cooler than The Green Hornet and the
film does play that angle up. Cameron Diaz is kinda of forgettable in this one as Britt Reid's smart secretary.
Christopher Waltz as crime boss Chudnofsky steals many of the scenes he is in that it makes me want to watch INGLOURIOUS
BASTERDS again. It is nice to see Edward James Olmos in a movie, but I feel the role underplays his talents as
an actor.
Now the film is a little stylish. Yet it doesn't reach the crazy visual heights of some of his other ffilms like
THE SCIENCE OF SLEEP (although teh montage scenes comes close). THE GREEN HORNET has went through a long development
history as a film as it switched directors, writers, and actors several times during many years. This film version
might be the best film version we'll get for a while. I found it entertaining, but it doesn't encourage me to see it
again or own the film on DVD (or Blu-ray). Also it is another 2D film upconverted to 3D that really comes off
as flat (and you can just about watch the film without the 3D glasses). I hope the script is smarter and more
snappy if they do make one.
