Adib Abdel Kareem (Alexander Siddig) is a computer operations manager living in Toronto with a family for at least 20 years.  He sneaks back into Syria after he finds out his oldest daughter Muna has decided to go into Syria to find out about her father’s past and she has disappeared, Adib is back into a country that accused him of being an Israeli spy which forced him to flee the country and leave behind Fatima (Marissa Tomei who gives a good performance playing an Arab woman), the woman he loved.   INESCAPABLE is like a quieter version of TAKEN made on a lower budget with very little action and focusing more on the drama and politics of Syria (which is a police state with secret police and accusations mattering more than actual guilt).  Writer/ Director Rubba Nadda has created a drama that delves into the political situation of living in Syria seen through the eyes of the man who left the country behind and the people who live there.  It is good enough for a rental, but I don’t see it as something worthy of repeat viewings.

SPECIAL FATURES:

Audio commentary with writer/ director Rubba Nadda and Cinematographer Luc Montpellier

The Behind-The-Scenes featurette has interviews with the cast about the film.

The Indigo Q&A is a half hour Q&A with Rubba Nadda, Alexander Siddig, and one of the other actors as they talk about the movie and take audience questions in a poorly shot Q&A with uneven video quality and badly recorded audio. The message seems to go support Canadian film, but what if the film one is supporting isn't that good.

Rounding out the extras is the theatrical trailer and previews for other releases from IFC.

FINAL ANALYSIS:  INESCAPABLE is a competent drama worth a rental that may either want you to read about the situation in Syria or go watch TAKEN again.  It comes off feeling like a made for cable version of TAKEN with a lot less action.
