Jay falls for a guy and her seemingly innocent sexual encounter turns into a nightmare as the guy she slept with tells her she will be followed by something and she can survive by sleeping with someone to pass it on.   She doesn’t believe him at first only to see someone that looks like people from her past or even strangers (like the naked woman that followed the guy).   The someone/ something always walks slowly and driving buys you sometime, but you should never stay in a place with one exit.  Jay’s friends try to help her as they face something she can only see.   IT FOLLOWS is one of the most creepy horror movies I have seen in a while.  It switches from the melancholia of teenage feelings to the terror of being pursued by something that can’ be killed.    Sleeping with someone can be dangerous and the only way to survive is not to have sex or have sex to pass it on like some ominous chain letter that can come back for you if it kills the person you slept with and then it will work itself backwards down the chain.  I did predict how the movie would end, but it does leave the door open for a sequel if they don’t follow the plan for the next film which could be called FOLLOW IT that may be a prequel or sequel.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

Scott Weinberg (of The Nerdist) hosts an audio commentary with various internet movie critics.   I rather have an audio commentary with the writer and director of the movie (David Robert Mitchell).

A CONVERSATION WITH FILM COMPOSER DISASTERPIECE chronicles the history of the music composer, how he became involved with scoring IT FOLLOWS, and talk about the score itself (how it is divided by what is going on in the scene and the director having a general blueprint to follow from the temp score for IT FOLLOWS being used as a guide).   The score of IT FOLLOWS sounds like the offspring of a John Carpenter film score.

Also included on the disc are the theatrical trailer, a poster art gallery, and previews for a couple of other movies that play before the main menu

FINAL ANALYSIS: IT FOLLOWS is the best horror movie I have seen in a while as it manages to blend horror with teenage life.   It has a music score that belongs in the same category as the horror movie scores of John Carpenter films.   I wonder what will happen in the proposed sequel called FOLLOW IT.
