Peter (John Krasinski), a Hollywood sound
designer, has agreed to help Martine (Olivia Thirlby) with her experimental art film Scorpio as a favor to his wife (Rosemarie
DeWitt). Martine comes to stay at the family pool house, but soon she gets entangled with Peter and has a fling with
him. Meanwhile, Peter's step-daughter Kolt has a crush on Peter's assistant while Kolt's friend Avi has a crush on him.
Then Peter's wife is a therapist and her latest client, a scriptwriter, desires her.
NOBODY WALKS is a film that has a good start, but it just fizzles
out in the story department as it becomes very pointless. It becomes one of those movies that just meanders along to
the conclusion as nothing really gets resolved in a film that left me very disappointed. It sets the ground for some
explosive emotional scenes only not to follow through on any of it. NOBODY WALKS is an emotionally detached film that
failed to connect with me. I walked away with utter disappointment in a movie that could have been so much more like
a drama with fireworks or a film that explored why the characters did what they did and the emotional fallout
from their action. Instead, director/ co-writer Ry Russo-Young doesn't know where to push her movie. On the plus
side, the direction is great, the sound design is a terrific element in NOBODY WALKS, and the actors are good. Rent
if you must, but you might want to wait until it airs on cable/ satellite if you feel the need to see this movie.
SPECIAL FEATURES:
SCORPIO is the full version of the short film that Martine was
working on and it is more impressive than anything in NOBODY WALKS. The deleted scene adds nothing and was cut for pacing.
The interview with Co-Writer/ Director Ry Russo-Young is interesting
to watch as she explains what she tried to do with this movie and explaining why drivers stare at anyone who walks in Los
Angeles and where the film's title came from. You can skip the boring interview with actress Olivia Thirlby
as she explains the character of Martine.
AXS TV: A LOOK AT NOBODY WALKS is a promotional featurette on
the movie. Also on the disc are the theatrical trailer and previews for other releases from magnolia pictures.
FINAL ANALYSIS: NOBODY WALKS fails to ignite and follow
through from a promising beginning. I suspect some viewers will walk away feeling disappointed with this movie. The
short film Scorpio and the director interview are the best extras.
