PENNY DREADFUL
Review of the pilot episode (101- NIGHT WORK)
by David
Blackwell
Malcolm Murray (Timothy Dalton) is on a quest
to rescue his
daughter mina with the help of clairvoyant Vanessa Ives (Eva Green). They recruit
would-be actor Ethan Chandler (Josh
Hartnett) and Victor Frankenstein (Harry Treadway) in the quest that Malcolm
would tear down the world to get his daughter back from Dracula.
It is a slow burn Victorian Horror thriller created
by John
Logan which sucks you in and just gets you very interested before the first
episode ends. PENNY DREADFUL is one of
those TV shows that would be great for binge viewing either by marathon or wait
for the season set on blu-ray or DVD. It
creates a unique atmosphere as it blends in fiction with the Victorian times of
turn of the century London (early 1890s).
It looks like a series that will all be written by John Logan as I can
sense it will unfold like a televised novel.
I would love to see more episodes, but I would pay to download episodes
if Showtime made them available via itunes and Amazon, but it isn’t worth
enough to pay to subscribe to the channel. However, I d think people who enjoy this type of show will love it and they will
make their own decision on whether to subscribe to Showtime or wait for DVD/ Blu-ray.
