PREDESTINATION is a twisty paradoxical time travel
movie that
sucks you with its screwed up logic and flashbacks within flashbacks in the
Spierig Brother’s adaptation of the Robert A. Heinlein short story, All You
Zombies. The movie revolves around a
barkeep (Ethan Hawke) who is on his last mission as a Temporal Agent to recruit
a man named John (Sarah Snook) who begins to tell a tale about how he started
out as a woman named Jane who grew up in the orphanage and trained in the space
program. The barkeep is also hung up
with wanting to catch the ever-elusive Fizzle Bomber.
This movie has so many ideas and great production
design on a
small budget. The Spierig Brothers
manage to create full worlds on limited budgets and they make it look more than
they spent. I can’t wait to see what
they do next for a movie. The casting is
perfect and you are invested in the two main leads. Also I love the alternate history stuff and time travel ideas around
the paradox loop.
