Volume Three is mad of 13 episodes which were split up into two seasons (Season 4- seven episodes and Season 5- six episodes).   Season 4 starts with Abby and Connor being stuck in the Cretaceous era for one year before they are able to escape back through an anomaly to the present day.  They find the ARC has a new facility and a new leader in the form of industrialist Phillip Burton (Alexander Siddig) in addition to a new team lead by Matt who is from a post-apocalyptic future and his mission is to stop that future from coming about).   Phillip Burton soon gets Connor working on a project to harness the energy of the anomalies while the team has new dangers to deal with in addition to finding about Burton's secretive New Dawn project and getting a new team member from the Victorian era.

PRIMEVAL is still a sci-fi adventure series I enjoy even though I can't fathom the logic of them splitting the 13 episodes into two seasons, but it all had to do with the complicated mechanics of who got to air the episodes first in the UK,   Connor and Abby have become the heart of the show while I still miss some of the other original team members like Nick Cutter.   Matt is an interesting new character that I like better than Danny (the ARC team's leader from season 3).   The stakes are higher as we find out what caused the future seen in a couple of episodes in the earlier seasons while providing some new twists.   The ending of the series does hint at some consequences of the team's actions and I would have loved to see a sixth season play that out, but at least I hope the spin-off follows up on some of the dangling plot threads left at the end of season 5.

 SPECIAL FEATURES:

NEW DAWN is a two part making-of featurette with each focusing on what goes into making the series and the second part is all on the making of season 5.   

Six Prequel webisodes tell a story of what happened between season 3 and 4 for a total run time of about 28 minutes.  If they made a couple of more webisodes, they would have had a proper episode of the series. 

FINAL ANALYSIS:   PRIMEVAL is still an enjoyable sci-fi adventure romp that makes me wish they were making a sixth season instead of a spin-off series.
