SEE NO EVIL 2 is the type
of sequel which has its strengths and weaknesses, and only the inclusion of the
cast and the input from the Soska sisters save the sequel. However, the
most two interesting characters
don’t make it through the whole film while the focus is on making Jacob
Goodnight into a horror icon. SEE
NO EVIL 2 is a sequel that is mostly good for the first 70 minutes and suffers
from a weak third act that could have used more rewrites. The direction from
Jen and Sylvia Soska is
not to blame as they have come up with filming some great kills and make you
care when some of our trapped people in the morgue get offed by Jacob
Goodnight. I just wish the script didn’t
turn it into a one sided affair as Jacob Goodnight is an unstoppable force and
I think the SEE NO EVIL franchise could take
notes from the superior THE COLLECTOR and THE COLLECTION. Katharine Isabelle
is a scene stealer from
basically everyone including Danielle Harris (who is quite good) and Kane. I
think it is time Katharine Isabelle gets
more leading roles as she seems to be sharing one thing in common with her
roles more and more with another actor named Sean Bean.
SPECIAL FEATURES:
TWISTED TWINS (SOSKA SISTERS)- this is the best
of three
featurettes that I had to watch twice as it gives a good background on Jen
Soska and Sylvia Soska from their childhood to what each of them bring to the
directing of their movies. Also the cast comment on how great it is to work
with the Soska sisters and hope they get to be in future films by the two of
them.
AUTOPSY: DISSECTING THE KILLS- a look at how
they created
the great kills in this sequel.
KANE: AN ICON REBORN- a look at Kane’s
wrestling character
and Jacob Goodnight along with how people are impressed by Kane’s performance
and Kane giving high praise for the directors
FINAL ANALYSIS:
SEE
NO EVIL 2 isn’t a totally successful horror movie which suffers from a weak
third act, but hopefully it will get fans of the SEE
NO EVIL films to check out the Soska sisters superior first two films (DEAD
HOOKER INA TRUNK and AMERICAN MARY)
