Season 7 of THE NEXT GENERATION was the end of one journey for the Next Generation cast before they went on to do four movies.   The last season of TNG has some great episodes (PARALLELS, THE PEGASUS, LOWER DECKS, MASKS, JOURNEY’S END, and PREEMPTIVE STRIKE) and some stinkers like any plotline dealing with Worf’s son Alexander.   Season 7 of TNG wrapped up many things for a few returning characters while ending while they still have some good scripts and not fading out after being on the air too long.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

Deleted scenes for select episodes in HD with many episodes cut for pacing reasons (but the deleted scenes for the series finale only appear pn the standalone release of ALL GOOD THINGS)

Episodic Promos for all season seven episodes

DISC 1-

ARCHIVAL MISSION LOG: MISSION OVERVIEW YEAR SEVEN

DISC 2-

IN CONVERSATION: LENSING STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION (HD)- 45 minute roundtable discussion between Supervising Producer David Livingston, director James L. Conway, Director of Photography (season six and seven) Jonathan West, and camera operator (season 6 and 7) Kris Krosskove,  They talk about their experiences of making the show (and directing Trek shows after TNG) and one even mentions there could have been an eighth season if the Feature Film division was so keen on turning TNG into a film franchise   They say most of the same crew stayed from start to finish for the various STAR TREK series.

ARCHIVAL MISSION LOG: A CAPTAIN’S TRIBUTE

ARCHIVAL MISSION LOG: DEPARTMENTAL BRIEFING YEAR SVEN: PRODUCTION- focus on various Season 7 episodes with special focus on the making of GENESIS

Gag Reel (HD) is full of line flubs, set and cast mishaps, and cast mischief

PARALLELS Audio Commentary by Brannon Braga (2008)

ARCHIVAL MISSION LOG: STARFLEET MOMENTS AND MEMORIES

DISC 4-

LOWER DECKS audio commentary by Rene Echevarria and Mike & Denise Okuda

DISC 6-

THE SKY’S THE LIMIT: THE ECLIPSE OF STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION (HD)- three part retrospective documentary on the seventh and final season

PART ONE: UMBRA- the writers talk about the best and worst episodes of season 7

PART TWO: PENUMBRA- hear from the crew and directors of the show about the challenges of making episodes for season 7 on a tight schedule

PART THREE: ANTUMBRA- Hear from the cast about the stories of the final season like Brent Spiner telling how challenging it was to do two central Data episodes in a row and Marina Sirtis saying she thought the relationship between Troi and Worf was a misstep that made Worf a pussy (while the Dax/ Worf relationship was perfect)

JOURNEY’S END: THE SAGA OF STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION- a program looking back at the series and making of ALL GOOD THINGS.  This hour long program (45 minutes without ads) ran originally around the same time that the series finale first aired.

ARCHIVAL MISSION LOG: THE MAKING OF ALL GOOD THINGS…

FINAL ANALYSIS:  The seventh season of STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION look fantastic on blu-ray with some great new extras while including all of the old DVD extras.  I hope CBS and Paramount start upgrading DEEP SPACE NINE for blu-ray soon.
