THE DEAD is a little different as it throws the zombie movie into an area where
you usually don't see the film take place. The zombies keep coming and you never can seem to get away from them for
long enough as they wander through the bush as Brian and Daniel try to make it across to a military base. For a low
budget production, it flows together quite well. You feel the dread as the characters try to make it
cross a hostile environment that just happens to also has zombies too. The Ford Brothers have created an amazing zombie
film played out against a beautiful and sometimes hostile landscape.
SPECIAL FEATURES:
The audio commentary is with Howard J Ford and
Jon Ford, the two directors of the film. From the audio commentary, they had their struggles in getting the film made
and it was a project that took several years to finally get made including cutting scenes out of the script.
The Behind-The-Scenes featurette is very quick
filler and I wish they had some interviews to compliment the behind-the-scenes footage. The deleted scene is interesting
to watch even though it could have broken up the film with its inclusion.
FINAL ANALYSIS: THE DEAD is an amazing zombie
film. It is a little different while being the kind of film that zombie movie fans will like.
