Lucas is a man putting his life back together after a difficult divorce and finding a new job working at a kindergarten.  His life is thrown into turmoil when the teachers take a lie said by one of the kids as truth and the community accuses him of sexual abusing the kid (Klara- the daughter of his best friend) and other kids.   Lies are taken as truth and gossip and malice begin to spread against Lucas as he fights a lonely battle for his life and dignity.

THE HUNT is a tough movie as it easily shows how it is easier to believe the lie of a child as truth than wanting to believe the word of an innocent parent who wants to start his life again with a new girlfriend and have his son come live with him.   It shows how easily mob mentality can develop when people think their kids are being hurt and throwing away their trust in someone they have known for years in a close knit Danish town.   Mads Mikkelsen gives a powerful and brave performance as Lucas as I want to really scream at the parents who fall in with the mob including his best friend (who has doubts about whether Lucas did something to Klara at all).

FINAL ANALYSIS:  THE HUNT is a tough look at how a lie can turn a community into a mob as a man fights for his life and dignity.  Mads Mikelsen gives one of his best performances in a movie that will make you think what is a lie in a sexual abuse accusation when it is easier to believe than the truth.
