TROLLHUNTER is told in the fashion of found footage movies like CLOVERFIELD and BLAIR WITCH PROJECT.   The movie follows a group of college students who are trying to find out a truth about a poacher only to find Hans, a trollhunter working for the TSS (Troll Security Service).  Hans agrees to have them film him as long as they do what he says.  they risk their lives to chronicle the truth about creatures they only thought only existed in fairy tales.

TROLLHUNTER is an entertaining film told in a documentary fashion and yet you care for Hans and the college students.   Writer/ Director Andre Ovredal was right shooting the film in the locations where he thought trolls would live (and norway has some beautiful landscapes).  It helps add an extra level of realism to the documentary approach teh film has.   It is very entertaining as you follow along the story of Hans and these students over the course of a few days.   It is riveting fantasy film unlike any I have seen that combines the documentary style and the real world with fantasy and trolls.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

The deleted and extended scenes reveal material cut from the film (like found footage that was edited way) in addition to scenes that the actors improved along with a so-so blooper reel.   The visual effects featurettes show a breakdown of the troll special effects.

Eight Behind the Scenes featurettes (TROOL FOOT, GOD VIBE ON THE SHOOT, WHILE WE WAIT, RUSSIAN BEAR, THE TIN MAN, THE BEARD, MOVIE STARS) cover various behind-thescenes moments which are fun to watch (escpecially the cast having fun between takes, and seeing the trollhunter's beard is fake and has to be applied).  HDNet: A LOOK AT TROLLHUNTER is an interview with writer/ director Andre Ovredal.   Rounding out the extras are photo galleries (Troll Sketches and Troll Habitats), the theatrical trailer, and previews for other Magnolia Home Entertainment releases.

FINAL ANALYSIS:  TROLLHUNTER is one of the more interesting found camera footage films I have seen in a while.   If you are looking for a movie that feels real with characters you care about, watch this one.
