BRIGHTBURN is your basic evil Superman origin story movie. It turns the concept of a farm family raising a kid from the stars on its head. The spaceship (that the family found the kid in) starts talking to the young boy that the couple named Brandon. Brandon starts to do bad things to people and starts to lack empathy. BRIGHTBURN looks interesting from the trailer, but the movie fails to deliver on its full potential as it feels more of a set-up for a bigger movie. Some characters are undeveloped while the story could have been more fleshed out. BRIGHTBURN is an interesting rental, but it isn't a classic. I don't know if I would see a sequel even though the end credits hint at set-up for a sequel.

SPECIAL FEATURES:
Filmmaker audio commentary with Director David Yarovesky, Director of Photography Michael Dallatorre, and Costume Designer Autumn Steed (Yarovesky)

NATURE VS NUTURE: Creating a New Supervillian- the origins of the movie's cocnept
HERO-HORROR!: a Radical New Genre- another promo fluff featurette on the movie
QUICK BURNS- Vignette Social Series which has three quick interviews with actress Elizabeth Banks, Producer James Gunn, and Director David Yarovesky

Previews for other Sony releases on or coming soon to physical media include ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD, SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME, and others

FINAL ANALYSIS: BRIGHTBURN has an interesting horror/ super villain concept, but the movie fails due to a script that isn't fleshed out enough. This evil Superman origin story movie is only worth a rental.
