Monte (Robert Pattinson) is part of a crew of death row inmates sent to investigate a black hole and possibly harness the
black hole's energy. The crew is lead by Doctor Drip (Juliette Bincoche) who uses the inmates as guinea pigs to see if human
reproduction works in outer space. As they approach the black hole, things start to go wrong with the crew to the point where
only two are left alone on the ship.
HIGH LIFE is a thought provoking sci-fi art film from director Claire Denis. The prisoners were given a choice of staying
on death row or having their lives commuted to life sentences to serve on a deep space mission that none may ever return from.
Humanity and the physics of relativity come into play throughout this movie. They are on a ship that is traveling at 99
percent of the speed of light. Time dilation comes into effect when they're traveling at those speeds and even more so when
they are near the black hole. If they did come back, decades and maybe even centuries would have passed. The only things
on the ship to pass the time are tend the garden, do physical exercise, or pleasure themselves in a box. It is bleak look
at long term space travel and the challenges that people will face.
SPECIAL FEATURES:

VISUALIZING THE ABYSSS: THE LOOK OF HIGH LIFE: talk about the retro sci-fi look of the spaceship, space travel, and black
holes as you hear from the cast and the film's physics consultant
Previews for other releases from Lionsgate and a code to download and stream a digital copy of HIGH LIFE
FINAL ANALYSIS: Claire Denis crafts a unique sci-fi movie with a great cast to show the psychological stress on humans
in long term space travel on what may just be a suicide mission in the name of science.
