Cam Harrison, a young journalist travels with his ailing niece, Elle to Mississippi in search of the magical healing potion that has been sweeping the nation. In his journey he discovers a traveling circus claiming to have a real live Mermaid. Intrigued by what could be, but filled with suspicion over the claim of Elizabeth being a real Mermaid, Cam travels to the Circus with Elle. They discover not only that the Mermaid is real, but that she is being held captive by the evil circus leader Locke, as she is the key to freeing her soul. Cam and Elle develop a growing friendship with the Mermaid as they plan to free her.

This version of THE LITTLE MERMAID tale has some interesting ideas and a new take on the classic tale. It does look like it was made on the cheap since some of the special effects are poorly done and it looks cheaper than the $5 million it was supposedly made on (I have seen movies with this budget and movies less than $5 million look better than this movie). The story lacks enough material to make it snap as it saves some other ideas for a sequel that might never be made. It is an enjoyable family movie, but the wraparound to tell the tale of the movie could be cut and it would improve THE LITTLE MERMAID. Rent it or stream it if you need to see this take of the tale which could have been more than a flawed family film.
