One stormy night, lighthouse keeper Thomas Curry rescues Atlantean Princess Atlanna (Nicole Kidman). They fall in love and
have a son Arthur. They are happy for a time until Atlanna has to flee to protect Thomas and their son. The story flashes
forward to a year after the events of Justice League where Aquaman/ Arthur Curry (Jason Momoa) helped defeat Steppenwolf's
invasion. He fights pirates attempting to hijack a nuclear submarine. He refuses to help save one of them which starts
a quest for revenge by David Kane. Arthur Curry is soon drawn into a quest for a legendary Trident of Atlan by Mera (Amber
Heard). Mera wants Arthur to overthrow his half brother King Orm- (who wants to unite the underwater kingdoms and wage a
war on the surface world).
AQUAMAN is a character that has long been in development as a TV show and movie while being the butt of many jokes as
people didn't respect Aquaman at all. I think one of Zack Synder's best decisions when casting for the DC Universe movies
was casting Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry. Aquaman was one of the best characters in JUSTICE LEAGUE and now the movie is doing
gangbusters business to guarantee a sequel.
AQUAMAN is the best 1980s superhero movie never made on a Marvel budget. It has big action spectacles, cheesy scenes,
plot holes, and a great cast (Dolph Lundgren, Willem Dafoe, and Patrick Wilson). It is a good follow up for the character
of Aquaman from Justice League and I can't wait for the sequel since this movie has already made over $500 million worldwide.
It balances superhero action film with origin story pretty well. Sometimes it may seem a little long, but I forgive AQUAMAN
for that since I really enjoyed it more than either the edit misfire of JUSTICE LEAGUE and the over plotted BATMAN V SUPERMAN.
