Kevin (James McAvoy)
has 23 different personalities with a
mysterious 24th one called The Beast yet to be revealed. When one of the personalities called Dennis
along with another personality Patricia kidnaps three teenage girls including
troubled girl Casey (Anya Taylor-Joy, things start to take a darker turn as the
three girls try to find a way to escape their prison before it’s too late.
Director M. Night Shyamalan
has returned to the universe of
the movie UNBREAKABLE with a movie which expands the universe with new
characters. James McAvoy gives several
great performances in this movie and he is the reason why the movie really
clicks. This is the movie fans of
UNBREAKABLE have been waiting for (sorta of) since it takes place in the same
universe as that movie. The flashbacks
show the troubled childhood of Casey while Kevin’s various personalities have a
voice through Dr. Karen Fletcher who sees her patients like a family. SPLIT
is a character study and a thriller.
Tension builds as you wonder what the Beast is and whether the teenage
girls will escape.
SPECIAL FEATURES:
Alternate ending (which was
too one note to the director)
and nine deleted scenes (showing a deleted character that Dr. Karen Fletcher
(Betty Buckley) has a crush on are among the cut scenes) which have optional
introductions by director M. Night Shyamalan
THE MAKING OF SPLIT- a behind-the-scenes
look at the making
of the movie and how it came to be
THE MANY FACES OF JAMES MCAVOY
is all about the multiple
roles that McAvoy plays in SPLIT
and how his casting was spot on
THE FILMMAKER’S EYE:
M. NIGHT SHYAMALAN- a brief look at the
process of the director of the movie
FINAL ANALYSIS: SPLIT
is one of the director’s best films alongside UNBREAKABLE, but this movie will
have a sequel which will also be a sequel to UNBREAKABLE coming in 2019.
