ADVENTURELAND is a mixed bag for me as a viewer. I get it that it is a tribute to the 1980s while showing how bad
(and cheesy) it was. The movie was inspired by the writer/ director's experiences working at a Long Island amusement
park back in 1985. ADVENTURELAND is amusing at times. Still I found myself bored at times and wished the story
focused on Em (Kristen Stewart) much more than our boring and looking for his way James Brennan (Jesse Eisenberg). I
liked Ryan Reynolds as the two-timing guitar player/ maintenance man. Bill Hader is funny as the Adventureland
manager. Adventureland comes off as a "crooked and we don't want people to win ever" type of place.
Also you learn you never wants anyone to win a Big-Ass (stuffed) Panda. Margarita Levieva is sexy and fantastic as the
always dancing and sexy woman with big boobs and a great ass. She plays the part for all it is worth.
Getting back to the central thrust of the story, it is about Brennan who has to take a summer job at Adventureland after
his Dad is making as much money anymore and Brennan wants to go to grad school in New York City looking to be a
great travel writer like Dickens. Brennan makes friends at Adventureland while constantly being punched in the
balls by his former friend Friggo. I relate more to the screwed up character of Em than I could ever with the pott
smoking and drifting through my summer nature of Brennan. Then again I think Kristen Stewart rocked in this film.
Also don't miss teh Adventureland commercial during the closing credits.
SPECIAL FEATURES:
JUST MY LIFE: THE MAKING OF ADVENTURELAND is a 16 minute promotional featurette that features interviews with cast and
crew as they talk about ADVENTURELAND. The three deleted scenes with opitional commentary by Writer/ Director Greg Mottola
and Actor Eisenberg. The deleted scenes don't add to the film at all (another deleted scenes is included in the
featurette). The feature audio commentary by Mottola and Eisenberg doesn't thrill much as they share a few details about
the movie and the characters.
FINAL ANALYSIS: ADVENTURELAND is a mixed experience for me. It makes me think how bad the 1980s was (I grew
up during the 80s). Also I wish it was about Kristen Stewart's character more. People who like pott smoking
and Superbad will probably enjoy this film more.
