BLUE BEETLE is a mess. The story looks like it had too many cooks that some didn't bother to read the entire script as sometimes later scenes contradict what was told scenes before. Then the main character Jaime Reyes and his family seem so cliché that it is making you wish his family wasn't in the movie or better written to reflect actual Hispanic Americans (but eth actors in the movie and the director say the family does reflect some actual Hispanic families- so your mileage will vary depending on how you connect with them). BLUE BEETLE attempts to respect the DC comics mythos, but the story is a mess. I didn't enjoy this movie. It made me think BLUE BEETLE should have been written off as a tax break than BATGIRL (which makes me think that BATGIRL might have been the better movie despite it's issues that needed to be fixed with a little extra movie and reshoots). I can see why BLUE BETTLE didn't perform well at the box office (but partly it could be due to the actors not being able to go promote it during the SAG strike and maybe the promotion could have been more focused on getting Latin American audiences to go see the movie). If the Hispanic characters were written better, I do think the movie would have performed better at the box office. I know some people liked this movie, but I did not.

FINAL ANALYSIS: Despite my low expectations for BLUE BEETLE, I still didn't enjoy this movie which needed a better script and better written Hispanic characters. Some people really enjoyed this movie and I'm not taking away from whether you should go watch it or not. The Blu-ray steelbook from Walmart is wonderfully designed and I think it was one of the better looking exclusives for this movie.
