THE FLASH is a one season CBS series I haven't watched all of until now on blu-ray. I caught a few episodes on TV when it aired and watched the pilot movie on the family Channel a few times. I even bought the DVD set of the series and still only watched a few episodes. I did watch every episode of the CW series of THE FLASH and I even read a few issues of various comic series of THE FLASH over the years. What I discovered about this short lived version of THE FLASH (that only aired one season on CBS) is how fun the show is with a great cast of characters and villains. John Wesley Shipp is perfect as police scientist turned into scarlet speedster known as the Flash by a freak accident of chemicals and lightning. His chemistry is great with Amanda Pays as STAR Labs research scientist Tina McGee. A recurring rooster of characters including Mark Hamill hamming it wonderfully as the trickster helps makes this show shine. Too bad this version of THE FLASH didn't last more than one season on TV while the CW version of THE FLASH lasted several seasons.

John Wesley Shipp would return as three different characters (which included playing Barry's father and a different Flash character) in the CW show. Danny Bilson and Paul De Meo were responsible for developing the 1990 series and they would go on to create VIPER and THE SENTINEL.

EXTRAS: Sadly. there are no extras even though there is an audio commentary recorded for THE TRIAL OF THE TRICKSTER which didn't make the DVD release either (but you can listen to it on an episode of the podcast called THE EXTRAS).

FINAL ANALYSIS: THE FLASH looks the best it will in high definition for fans of this show (and the character). The only downside is no extras or commentaries were included for this release.
