THE COLONY is an atmospheric lower budgeted sci-fi movie filmed in Germany using unique locations and soundstages. It is
a sci-fi movie taking place generations after the well off humans have abandoned Earth (which has been ravaged by climate
change, war, and pandemics) and they have sent expeditions to see if Earth can be colonized again (since people can't have
children anymore on the planet they went to). A second expedition crashes on Earth and one of their missions is to find
out what happened to the first expedition. Soon the two survivors of the mission are captured by a group of surviving humans
and they learn that this group has been in the outs with another group who want the children and women. You learn there
is a personal connection as the female of the expedition wants to learn the fate of her father (a member of the first expedition).
I do wish THE COLONY was longer and it is a movie that would have benefited from a limited series with flashbacks and more
exploration of what Earth is like now.
SPECIAL FEATURES:
Audio commentary with writer/ director Tim Fehlbaum
VISIONS OF THE FUTURE: MAKING THE COLONY- a good behind-the-scenes look at making the movie with behind-the-scenes footage,
clips, and interviews.
Digital code to stream and download a copy of THE COLONY
FINAL ANALYSIS: THE COLONY is an atmospheric sci-fi movie which I enjoyed, but I wish it was more like a limited series
that would probably explore the world hinted at in this lower budget sci-fi movie.
