PLOT: A Group of college students are faxed through a wormhole back to 1357 France to rescue their college professor on
the big day of a castle siege. It is a race against time before they get stuck in the past forever.
ANALYSIS:
TIMELINE is a good sci-fi adventure film whenever I watch it, but I wonder how my opinion will change if I read the novel.
The cast of the movie went on to bigger success after this movie with their careers (Paul Walker, Gerard Butler). The movie
adaptation had some problems in post production which caused some re-editing (due to test screenings results) and the change
of composers. THE 13TH WARRIOR had the same problems in post-production with the movie getting reshoots and the original
score getting rejected. I do wish there were some deleted scenes on this release or an option where the movie plays with
the original Jerry Goldsmith score.
SPECIAL FEATURES:
This Limited Collector's Edition from Imprint does include the featurettes from the old Paramount DVD plus a couple of
new ones produced for this blu-ray. However, the North America blu-ray has no extras.
MAKING THEIR OWN HISTORY has the highlight of the director making fun of Paul Walker in addition to all the work that
goes into getting day to day details to match from shot to shot in the movie
SETTING TIME
TEXTURES OF TIMELINE goes into the weapons, clothes, and sets that were built and designed for the movie. The production
team created models of the sets before they were constructed
THE NIGHTS OF LA ROQUE shows a member of the production crew looking over photos taken of the castle location to determine
how scenes can be shot, how many extras are needed, and how to light it. Also you see footage of a safety meeting and behind-the-scenes
footage of the castle siege.
AMBUSHED: INSIDE THE GOLDSMITH SCORE- film music historian Jeff Bond talks about the score that Goldsmith recorded for
the movie twice and why it wasn't used in addition to Jerry Goldsmith's long history of composing scores for Michael Crichton
films and including bits of the original score
HISTORY WILL CHANGE: COMPOSING TIMELINE- in this interview with composer Brian Tyler, he talks about how he became involved
with the movie and how he approached the score
Theatrical trailer
FINAL ANALYSIS: If you want the extras on TIMELINE, you will want to track down the imprint release instead of the North
American blu-ray. Hopefully, Paramount will release a better blu-ray of TIMELINE or license it out to Shout Factory in the
USA in the near future.
