FIRESTARTER starts out great as a new adaptation of the Stephen King novel until the last half doesn't have enough development to hold together the movie despite the excellent cast and direction. I hate it when the writers of a movie don't take the time to flesh out the characters and their journey. However, the music score by John Carpenter and his son Cody Carpenter is a fantastic score up there with the best scores from the movies that John Carpenter directed (too bad John Carpenter can't come back to direct another movie).

The alternate ending is even more underwhelming than the theatrical ending. The deleted and extended scenes include some scenes that should have been left in while others were wisely cut. There is also a two minute gag reel

FINAL ANALYSIS: Rent FIRESTARTER or wait until the price on the blu-ray drops because I can't recommend you buying the movie at full price. You might want to check out the first adaptation that starred Drew Barrymore or read the Stephen King novel.
