APARTMENT 1303 is the latest J-Horror release from Tartan Video. It kept me mildly interesting despite the generic characters and the generic party sequences before the mysterious suicides in the film. I have seen better J-Horror. APARTMENT 1303 doesn't start paying off until about halfway into it. Then the floodgates open up.

Sayaka moves into her first apartment, a cheap condo on the 13th floor. Then she soons plunges to her death and it is ruled a suicide. Her older sister Mariko investigates and finds out that her sister was the fifth person in three years to jump from the balcony of the same apartment. It all started with Yukiyo who killed her mom before taking the suicide plunge six months later.

Yep you have a weak script held together by the visuals and scares. You have the mother who blames Mariko for her younger sis's dath. You have the detective who is still haunted by the suicides. You have the slimebag apartment renters who keep renting out 1303 without telling anyone about what happened there. Also you have the scary young woman ghost with dark hair. It is a horror film of J-Horror cliches grinded out yet again like it came froma factory of copycat films.

SPECIAL FEATURES: The extras are silm with a still gallery, the original theatrical trailer, and previews for ARANG, SILK, THE HEIRLOOM, THE GHOST, SHUTTER, and one other.

FINAL ANALYSIS: APARTMENT 1303 is just worth a rental. if you're looking for something new, skip it.
