THE PLAN is hard to gauge. I don’t know if I like it or not. I know
it shows the first two years of the show’s storyline from the Cylon’s Point-Of-View. I just don’t think it should have been so dependent on Cavil (Dean Stockwell). THE PLAN works best when it focuses on the other Cylons like Sam (one of the final Five), the number Fours,
the Six models (I wonder what happened to the prostitute Six), and Leoben. I
wish THE PLAN focused more on them and the deleted scenes even hint that THE PLAN would have been stronger if they left some
of that material in. My problem with Cavil is that he is very unsympathetic
and hard to like as a character. I do love how we see the destruction of the
Twelve Colonies in more visual detail.
SPECIAL FEATURES:
Director/ Actor Edward James Olmos and
Writer Jane Espenson provide the audio commentary for the film. The 14 minutes
of deleted scenes feature character moments that would have taken THE PLAN in a different direction away from Cavil’s
story.

OLMOS AND THE PLAN- focus on the directing that EJO did for THE PLAN and how people feel about him as a director.
THE CYLONS OF THE PLAN- he cast talk about the Cylons of THE PLAN
THE CYLON ATTACK- the filming of the attack
scene on the Cylon repair shack (on Caprica)
VISUAL EFFECTS: THE MAGIC BEHIND THE PLAN-
a very detailed 20 minute look at the visual effects of the plan from Pre-Viz to Final CGI.
It is the best featurette on the disc and a look good at the visual effects process on a show (in this case the DVD
movie).
Also on this disc (hidden in the extras
menu) is an Easter Egg which fans of the original BATTLESTAR GALACTICA will appreciate.
FINAL ANALYSIS: It was nice to visit BATTELSTAR GALACTICA for one more time (until THE FACE OF THE ENEMY webisodes
make their way to DVD). It could have been stronger and I do wish they shifted
the focus of the story to the other Cylons more.
