On October 6, everyone in the world blacks
out for two minutes and 17 seconds, and experiences a glimpse of their future on April 29, 2010. Some
see nothing. Special Agent Mark Benford (Joseph Fiennes) heads a special
investigation into the blackout called Mosaic based on a vision he had of gunmen coming to the Los Angeles FBI building for
what he knows. His partner, Demetri Noh (John Cho), saw blackness and learns
he will be murdered on March 15, 2010.
FLASH FORWARD follows the lives of many people as they try to deal with what could be the future while others want
to find out what caused it.
FLASH FORWARD poses interesting questions
about whether we can change our fates if we knew what was going to happen in the future.
The people who see nothing decide to find death in their own ways while one character’s sacrifice may prove everything
isn’t written in stone when it comes to the future. The show is sometimes
a little too much like a soap opera. FLASH FORWARD is at its strongest
when the show focuses on the investigation into the blackout even though the vision that Mark’s AA sponsor had proves
to be one of the interesting storylines outside of the investigation.
The second half of the season takes
the concept of what the characters experience and their flash forwards don’t go as planned which means the future isn’t
set in stone and the experience of knowing the future alters it. They did
build up one bad guy only to underused him by the end. A few surprises do pop up and it helps keep the momentum up. The
season finale which turned out to be the final episode of the series (ABC cancelled the show sadly enough) brought the viewer
to the day the people witnessed in their flash forwards.
