LEGEND OF THE SEEKER is the return to syndicated
TV for producers Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert, the same guys who produced HERCULES and XENA.
Bruce Spence, Craig Horner, and Bridget Regan star in this series based on the SWORD OF TRUTH fantasy series of novels. Horner is Richard Cypher, the Seeker, who is prophesized to defeat the evil Darken
Rahl who is enslaving land after land in a misguided quest to bring peace through his twisted means. Richard is joined in his quest by Zed (Spence) the wizard and Kahlan (Bridget Regan) the Confessor who
can control people by one touch. Richard and Kahlan share a love that may
never be for fear that Kahlan could confess Richard.
LEGEND OF THE SEEKER started out slow with
average writing before the show really took off to create a very vivid and imaginative series with plots that build and refer
to each other as the season goes on. The Seeker wants to be
human and not be like Darken Rahl in his quest to defeat his enemy. The
characters develop over several episodes and even the guest stars are fully realized.
You sympathize for the D’haran captain who cares for his family in DECEPTION even though he is on opposite sides
of the Seeker. Recurring characters including Denna aren’t black and white
even though she is a Mord-Sith (ones who are immune to wizard’s magic) and seeking to defeat Richard. CONVERSION shows sometimes the best plans can go awry while MIRROR proves a lighter episode does
work despite the show being stronger without being too tongue-in-cheek. REVENANT
looks into the history of a past Seeker. I can’t wait to see what
season two will bring.
