MOON is a film that is influenced by such
films as ALIEN, BLADE RUNNER, OUTLAND, SILENT RUNNING, and SOLARIS. It explores
the issues of big business exploitation, cloning, paranoia, and even what we do with our limited time when we’re alive.
Sam Bell (Sam Rockwell) is about to end
his three year contract on the moon mining Helium-3 for Lunar Industries. He
wants to go home to his wife and daughter. After an accident on the surface,
things start to go wrong and he comes across himself. Is he going insane? Is he a clone or is the one he found out in the wrecked lunar rover a clone?
Duncan Jones does amazing things with a
good crew on a $5 million dollar budget. It’s an impressive film. It is a sci-fi film you don’t see much of.
You usually see sci-fi action blockbusters. Sam Rockwell pulls off
a wonderful performance as two Sams. I can’t wait for the next film
Duncan Jones wants to which he describes as a spiritual sequel to BLADE RUNNER.

the film which covers the making of the film and the homage to other films:
The first track is with Writer/ Director
Duncan Jones, Director of Photography Gary Shaw, Concept Designer Gavin Rothery, and Production Designer Tony Noble while
the second track is with Duncan Jones and Producer Stuart Fenegan.
THE MAKING OF MOON covers the making of
the film with behind-the-scenes footage and intereviews (with cast and crew). CREATING
THE VISUAL EFFECTS (with commentary by the visual effects supervisor from Cinesite) takes a look at the visual effects.
Two screening Q&A’s are on the
disc. The first has Duncan Jones introduce the film and answer questions at the
Houston
Space Center while the second Q&A is at Sundance
which has the crew and Same Rockwell answer audience questions. A definite
plus for this disc is the original theatrical trailer is included.
FINALA ANALYSIS: MOON is the type of sci-fi film that explores mature themes and it is the type of film opposite the
type of sci-fi films usually made these days (big budget sci-fi action films).
