SHOOT 'EM UP starts with a shot on Clive Owen's eyes. Then it shows him eating a carrot. To say SHOOT 'EM UP is absurd
and over-the-top is stating the obvious. It is so bad, absurd, and over-the-top, that it is entertaining. Is the film a
great action movie satire or is the joke on everyone into watching this absurd film? Maybe it is a bit of both. Who knows?!
I was amazed by pone absurd thing after another as I wondered if the director was thinking of one absurd thing to top the
one that came before it. Clive Owen is Smith, a stranger who can kill equally well with a carrot, knife, and any gun.
He falls for a lactating hooker (Monica Bellucci) after they have to protect a baby from a whackjob (Paul Giamatti) hired
to snuff the baby at any cost (men and money).
SHOOT 'EM UP's joy comes from the fact that it is very absurd and the very bad dialogue makes you laugh (or cringe). It is
nice to see Clive and Monica in a movie together. The love/ action scene is one of the high points of absurdity. Lucky
for all of us, SHOOT 'EM UP is short and entertaining due to it's over-the-top nature. It is the most absurd action film
of 2007.
