THE EYE is a remake of the 2002 Chinese film directed by The Pang Brothers. The remake rights were snatched up by Tom Cruise and his production partner Paula Wagner. They languished until somehow it finally ended up getting made. Jessica Alba plays Sydney Wells, a blind violinist who gets a double cornea transplant. With the ability to see again, Sydney also sees ghosts. She even dreams of things that the previous owner of her eyes saw. Sydney wants to know why she is seeing dead people and soon she is sent ona journey to reveal the truth.

The remake of THE EYE is very atmospheric. Jessica Alba does a good job in the lead and the cinematography fits the modd. A few jumps and scares makes this intense viewing. The use of her vison being blurry at first and the psychology of seeing things she doesn't understand adds weight to this remake. I think the remake is better than the original. The end could have been more intense. It just felt a little flat in suspense terms compared to how the sequence was directed in the original. Other than that, THE EYE is an Asian remake that is much better than the tepid ONE MISSED CALL remake.
