THE INFORMERS is full of characters who aren't very likeable. It takes place in mid-1980s Los Angeles following
various beautiful people who do terrible things. The audio commentary does reveal the film is more about atmospher than
the story. The film does have fantastic cinematography and good production design for the budget they had.
THE INFORMERS does feel aimless and sometimes I felt myself not carrying about these people played by Billy Bob Thornton (the
head of a movie studio), Kim Bassiner (the studio head's wife), Jon Foster (their son), Amber Heard (his girlfriend), Mel
Raido (a drugged out rock star who wants to feel something), Mickey Rourke (Pete who kidnaps a kid to sell to freaks), Brad
Renfro (a struggling actor who doesn't like what Pete is doing), and Wionna Ryder (the studio head's mistress).
THE INFORMERS is about 1980s decadence and it is supposed to be a morality tale. The big problem with the film
is that I don't care for the characters. The plot is too disjointed and they relied too much on atmosphere.
Even though the film is based on the novel by Bret Easton Ellis (American Psycho) who helped write the screenplay, the film
doesn't have focus. Maybe it captures the decadence of the 1980s spot on. However, i want characters to
care for.
SPECIAL FEATURES:
The audio commentary is with director Gregor Jordan and actors Jon Foster and Lou Taylor Pucci. It is a very informative
track about the production of the film. I do hope they take the cut out vampire plot from the script and make a movie
of it one day.
HUMAN INSERECTIONS: MAKING THE INFORMERS covers some of the same ground as the audio commentary which reveal much of
the film was filmed in Uruguayand Argentina because 1980s Los Angeles doesn't exsist in LA anymore.
FINAL ANALYSIS: THE INFORMERS is a film I don't care about due to the film being too disjointed with no characters
to care for.
