THE PREFECT CRIME is an absurd comedy. The type of comedy that works well no matter how over-the-top it becomes. Rafael
is head of the ladies department where his only rival for the floor manager's job is the head of Men's, Don Antonio. Soon
he is accidentally killed by Rafael and the body is stolen by Lourdes, an ugly woman who loves Rafael. She blackmails him
to do anything she wants including firing people and having sex. He soon plans to do away from her as he feels her jaws tighten
on him. THE PERFECT CRIME works as we want Rafael to get free despite being a womanizing bastard. He doesn't want kids, a
wife, or even settle down. He has very clear goals. Goals that Lourdes want to break. This film makes me want to see an earlier
film from director Alex De La Iglesia even more, ACCION MUTANE (currently OOP on Region 1). I wish the minor characters had
more development because I would have loved to see how the woman Rafael (were with) would react to Lourdes through the course
of the film.
SPECIAL FEATURES: an audio commentary with director Alex De La Iglesia and co-screenwriter Jorge Guerricachevarria is the
best extra on the disc while the Making Of featurtte is a bland behind-the-scenes look at them shooting certain scenes and
having fun on the set (boring). Also the original theatrical trailer is included.
Previews for The Bow, The Death Of Mr. Lazerescu, The Cave Of The Yellow Dog, and Milwaukee Minnesota round out the disc.
FINAL ANALYSIS: THE PERFECT CRIME is an enjoyable over-the-top comedy from a director that I still want to see one of his
earlier efforts released to DVD in R1 (hint- please grab the rights to Accion Mutane, Tartan USA).
