DISC 4, SIDE B: TIME TRAVELERS TV movie
The second batch of episodes of THE TIME TUNNEL may not have been as good as the episodes that came before it, but it was
still very entertaining whether Douglas Phillips and Tony Newman met Robin Hood, Merlin, Billy The Kid, Nero's ghost, or aliens
intent on invading the Earth. Guest stars included Robert Duvall and Mako. I just thought the episodes of the series were
the best without including aliens, legendary heroes, or Nero's ghost. It is enough to see them time traveling, but the show
felt grounded as the show was a way to explore history and expose it to the audience. Project Tic Toc is a top secret United
States underground time travel project. Doug and Tony are trapped in time as Tic Toc tries to bring them home. During the
second half of this one season, Tic Toc is able to transport other people and try to improve their homing beacon tech to bring
Doug and Tony home.
To top off this one season show, 20th Century Fox has included the unaired 2002 pilot for a TIME TUNNEL reimagining that
shamefully was passed over and never made into a series. Even if that isn't enough, the TIME TRAVELERS TV movie pilot is also
included in the second volume. Like THE TIME TUNNEL, the TV movie was entertaining in a low tech kind of way. I would rather
had THE TIME TUNNEL return. With this second volume, I had been able to catch episodes of the show that I missed on Encore
Action (which recently stopped airing the series) like THE REVENGE OF ROBIN HOOD, KILL TWO BY TWO, and CHASE THROUGH TIME.
2002 Unaired pilot review: http://enterline2.tripod.com/time_tunnel_2002.html
VIDEO: 1.33:1 (Full Frame)/ 1.78:1 (Anamorphic Widescreen) for 2002 unaired pilot
The quality of the transfers are up to the standards of volume 1. The unaired pilot looks sharp.
AUDIO: English Mono, Spanish Mono, French Mono, English 5.1 Dolby (for 2002 unaired pilot)
Subtitles: English, Spanish
Dialogue and all sound comes across clearly.
SPECIAL FEATURES: One of the best extras has to be interviews with four members of the cast: Whit Bissell, James Darren,
Robert Colbert, and Lee Meriwether. Good insights from the cast as they talk about the long production days, where the show
might have went, and more. They're all worth a listen. The first two are on side B of Disc One and the last two are on Side
B of Disc 3. A still gallery can be found on Side B of Disc 2.
Also fans get to watch the 2002 unaired pilot which I wish would have went to series. If that isn't enough, the TIEM TRAVELERS
TV movie from 1976 is also included.
FINAL ANALYSIS: FOX has done a top notch job for volume 2 of THE TIME TUNNEL. Too bad the series lasted for only one season.
I'm all ready for more adventures of Doug and Tony as Project Tic Toc try to bring them home from their travels in the infinite
spaces of time.
