The Problems with the show start here in the second half of the seascon season. The Cold War
episodes and THE SKY'S ON FIRE are great. Even THE PHANTOM STRIKES is one of the best of thE season despite being one
of the supernatural/sci-fi episodes that make up more of this half of the season. However, THE MECHANICAL MAN
(guest starring james Darren) is one of the worst about a power hungry android (Darren) who likes to bare his chest while
wearing shades (must be for the women). THE RETURN OF THE PHANTOM is better, but it contradicts the ending of THE PHANTOM
STRIKES and make Krueger's reason for wanting Crane's body just silly. I rather have not known. Still teh Flying
sub takes a beating in many episodes (and gets destroyed once) and I'm still convinced Captain Crane shouldn't be left alone
on the Seaview when Admiral Nelson leaves the sub.
SPECIAL FEATURES: On disc 3, Side B are interviews with David Hedison (Captain Lee Crane)- Impressions Of Irwin,
How Irwin Treated The Stars, The Actors, Irwin's Lack Of Humor, Favorite Episodes (He loved the Phantom episodes), The
Flying Sub. David says how there were problems with the scripts and why the show was cancelled after four years
(he think it is the monster episodes in season 3 and 4) and that he thought Irwin was a terrible director.
Three brief still galleries show Miniatures of the Seaview and flying Sub, Episodic Photos (many from the first half of
season 2), and Publicity Photos.
FINAL ANALYSIS: The second half of season 2 shows me that worse is yet to come despite a few gems that show
VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA still has a pulse at this time.
