WAR is an intelligent action thriller. Despite the fact Jet Li and Jason Statham don't fight for very long in this film,
one is chasing the other throughout WAR. The ending is slightly disappointing, but one of the twists is exciting and helps
makes sense of why eveything is happening.
WAR revolves around FBI agent Jack Crawford (Jason Statham) in his obsessive quest to get Rogue (Jet Li), the assassin
responsible for the death of Crawford's partner, Tom Lone (Terry Chen), three years ago. Rogue has resurfaced to create a
war between the Triad and Yakuza in Sabn Francisco. Chang (John Lone) heads up the Triad while Shiro (Ryo Ishibashi) is the
leader of the Yakuza. Rogue seems to have left the service of the Yakuza to work for Chang. Chang wants Rogue to steal
two golden horses that Shiro is transporting to San Francisco from Japn to sell in the USA. Lots of martial arts, gunplay,
and sword fighting ensue as WAR speeds to it's conclusion.
WAR has a good cast of actors. Devon Aoki has never looked more beautiful as Shiro's deadly daughter, Kira, while Andrea
Roth does as much as she can in the role of Crawford's ex-wife. The action barely lets up in WAR. It is front and center
in this film. The soundtrack isn't bad either. The way the film is shot reminds me of the way action scenes are filmed in
THE BOURNE SUPREMACY and THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM. WAR is very entertaining even though I wish there was a little more at the
end- a very solid energetic action thriller with plenty of twists and turns.
